LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas police are looking for a driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run in the northeast valley on Thursday.
According to police, the crash occurred at 1:56 a.m. on Lake Mead and Sloan. An initial investigation revealed that a stolen 2013 Hyundai Sonata traveling east on Lake Mead struck a pedestrian on a scooter. Police added that the pedestrian was traveling inside a crosswalk.
Following the crash, the Hyundai lost control and left the roadway, before heading into a nearby parking lot. The vehicle then struck several fixed objects, ejecting the driver.
Both the driver and the passenger of the vehicle fled the area on foot.
The pedestrian was later pronounced dead at the scene.
“The pedestrian’s death marks the 144th traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction for 2024,” LVMPD noted in a release.
The crash remains under investigation.
