RENO, Nev. (KOLO) -An inmate was found dead Friday morning at the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said.
The inmate, who the sheriff’s office is not identifying until next of kin have been notified, was found unresponsive in his cell at about 5:30 a.m.
Life-saving measures were not effective and he was pronounced dead a short time later, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office initiated a critical incident protocol.
The El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and the Placerville Police Department are assisting with the investigation.
