LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Nevada District 2 Little League held an opening ceremony Thursday night to kick off its All-Stars tournament season, bringing together teams from across Southern Nevada at Desert Bloom Park.
Organizers said it was the first time the district had held an opening ceremony of that scale.
Players and families celebrate the milestone
For the players, earning a spot on an All-Stars roster carried significant meaning. One player said making the team felt exciting. Another said he competed in All-Stars the previous year, advanced to the State tournament and came up short.

The event included both baseball and softball players. Madeline, a player on Henderson Little League’s softball team, was cheered on by her older brother Preston, who plays at Paseo Verde.
Preston said he encourages his sister and tells her she is doing well.
Madeline said she began playing two seasons ago after watching her brother play for years.
Big goals and bigger dreams
Players described wide-ranging goals for the season. One said her goal was to keep playing all the way until adulthood. Others said they hoped the All-Stars run could lead to Williamsport and the Little League World Series in August, calling it a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Notable attendees
Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo attended the ceremony and spoke about the players representing America, Nevada, Las Vegas and Clark County, and recognized them for playing what he called America’s game.
UNLV’s new head coach, Nick Garritano, also addressed the crowd, encouraging the young athletes to thank their parents for their support.
Organizers said they plan to hold the event again next year.
