LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A female passenger was killed Friday evening after a motorcycle crashed into a fire hydrant near the intersection of Cactus Avenue and Decatur Boulevard.

Emergency crews were called to the area at approximately 6:47 p.m.

According to authorities, a motorcycle carrying a male driver and a female passenger was traveling westbound on Cactus approaching Decatur when the rider lost control and struck a fire hydrant. The female passenger was declared dead at the scene. The male driver was transported to a local hospital in unknown condition.

Road closures and investigation

The intersection of Cactus and Decatur has been shut down in all four directions. Authorities said the closure is expected to last several hours.

A fatal detail has been called to the scene to handle the investigation. The water district is also responding to address damage to the fire hydrant.
