LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Southern Nevada Water Authority has released its plan to conserve water through 2029, all in an effort to sustain Lake Mead levels and crucial water supply for the Las Vegas Valley.

The Joint Water Conservation Plan was released, this week, by the Clark County Commission. The outlined plans, policies and goals are ones approved by the Southern Nevada Water Authority- put together in a master digest.

One of the outlined goals? Help decrease the daily water usage of each person in Southern Nevada to 86 gallons per day.

Southern Nevada Leaders have incrementally worked to curb per-capita usage: through 2022, leaders set a goal of 105 gallons per day; from 2022 to 2024, the goal for usage dropped to 89 gallons per day.

The Southern Nevada Water Authority manages water for 2.3 million people.

“We have to continue to put ourselves in a position to make what changes need to be made, to continue to drive our water use down,” said Corey Enus of the SNWA.

Lake Mead levels have shrunk 150 feet in the past two decades.

“The same things that we relied on 20 years ago for water conservation can’t be the same things that we rely on moving forward, 20 years, for water conservation. We have to continue to be malleable. We have to continue to be progressive and aggressive in our water conservation efforts,” Enus said.
