LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV Lady Rebels remain undefeated in Mountain West play after collecting a 70-61 over Colorado State on Wednesday night at Cox Pavilion. The Scarlet & Gray (12-4, 4-0 MW) have now won five straight games and their ninth consecutive win over the Rams (12-5, 3-1 MW).
Aaliyah Alexander led UNLV with second 20-point game in a Lady Rebel uniform, scoring 21 points by shooting 7-for-13 from the field, 2-for-4 from long range and was a perfect 5-for-5 at the free throw line. Kiara Jackson was the second leading scorer on the squad with 19 points. Amarachi Kimpson and Meadow Roland each had nine points on the night, while Kimpson led the team in assists with five. Four different Lady Rebels had five rebounds each, including Alexander, McKinna Brackens, Alyssa Brown and Meadow Roland.
The Rams had three players score in double-digits and were led by Emma Ronsiek’s 15 points. Brooke Carlson and Marta Leimane each had 11 points, while Hannah Ronsiek led Colorado State in rebounds with nine.
STAT OF THE GAME: The Lady Rebels forced a season high 18 turnovers by the Rams. UNLV scored 21 points off Colorado State’s turnovers. The Scarlet & Gray only had five turnovers tonight, which is the lowest so far this season.
TURNING POINT: UNLV used a 7-0 scoring run with 3:48 to play in the final frame to take a double-digit lead at 68-57, which was the largest lead of the game.
OTHER NOTES:
- There were six lead changes throughout the game, and six times the Lady Rebels and Rams were tied.
- UNLV held CSU to only nine points in the second quarter.
- Colorado State out-rebounded the Scarlet & Gray 37-26.
- The Lady Rebels had five blocked shots compared to the Rams’ two blocked shots.
- UNLV and CSU scored the same amount of paint points at 32 each, and bench points at 13.
- The Lady Rebels dished 14 assists compared to the Rams’ 10 assists.
UP NEXT: UNLV will hit the road again for a Mountain West contest at New Mexico on Sunday, Jan. 12. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT/2 p.m. MT and will be live on CBS Sports Network. The Lady Rebels and Lobos both head into Sunday’s game with an undefeated conference record, 4-0.
