LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Henderson Police Department is the latest department in the Las Vegas Valley to report a drop in car thefts.
HPD figures show thefts dropped about 27 percent in 2024 compared to 2023. Figures show 1,740 car thefts in 2023, compared to 1,276 in 2024.
FOX5 just looked through yearly Metro Police crime statistics and found car thefts dropped about 30 percent in 2024 compared to 2023. North Las Vegas Police reported a drop in car thefts of about 42 percent from January 1 through November 30, 2024 compared to 2023.

North Las Vegas Police say a combination of factors resulted in the drop, including a citizen patrol, the hiring of new officers, free steering wheel locks, targeted car theft patrols, the opening of the North Central Area Command and community partnerships.
Police say the public can help prevent car thefts by simply locking car doors.
With all these reductions FOX5 wanted to know if car insurance rates will go down for people in Southern Nevada.
Janet Ruiz, with the Insurance Information Institute, which represents insurance companies, says it’s possible a driver’s comprehensive insurance rate might go down. She says a car theft would fall under comprehensive coverage.
However, Ruiz says rates may not drop if an insurance company saw an increase in costly accidents. And says any decrease in rates may take 1-2 years to trickle down to a policy holder.
