RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen have come out in opposition to a plan by President Trump to end birthright citizenship.
Upon being inaugurated Monday, Trump signed an executive order to end the practice, a move that has already drawn a legal backlash.
In a statement, Rosen said:
“The Constitution is clear: if you are born in the United States, you are an American citizen,” said Senator Rosen. “Donald Trump’s attempt to take Americans’ birthright citizenship away is extreme, unconstitutional, and illegal. I will do everything in my power to protect Nevadans’ Constitutional rights.”
Cortez Masto, meanwhile, took to Twitter to say:
“President Trump can’t simply rewrite our Constitution. If you are born in this country, you’re a citizen.”
