RENO, Nev. (KOLO) –Update at 12:27 p.m.: The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s office is releasing new details about an officer involved shooting that occurred at the VA hospital in Reno.

They say 58-year-old Jeffrey Chapman of Reno was pronounced dead at the scene. Chapman reportedly entered the hospital’s ER brandishing a weapon and was shot dead by law enforcement after charging them with that weapon.

No details were provided about what kind of weapon Chapman had.

Chapman’s manner of death was homicide with the cause being multiple gunshot wounds.

Original Article: The FBI is leading an investigation into an officer-involved shooting at the VA Hospital in Reno. The call came in around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 12th, 2025. Most of the police presence was seen near the ER entrance on Locust and Burns Streets.

Reno Police confirming to KOLO 8 News Now that they helped secure the scene, but no other details have been released as to what led up to the shooting or the extent of any injuries.

The FBI sending us a statement saying they can confirm their involvement but declined to provide further details as it is an active investigation. They did say there is no threat to public safety.

Someone at the hospital told our crews on scene that the ER will remain open. However, the entrance is closed so people will need to use another entrance. We’ve reached out to the hospital for further information on what happened and we will share that when it becomes available.
