LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Animal Foundation humanely euthanized a dog suffering from Canine distemper at the shelter, a spokesperson said.
On Thursday, the shelter announced the diagnosis of this highly-contagious disease. The Animal Foundation took in the female dog nearly a week ago. The dog showed signs of an infectious disease and eventually tested positive for distemper.
“The dog’s symptoms were quite severe and she was actively shedding the virus; since we confirmed it was distemper we know that there was not a definitive treatment,” the shelter said.
The dog came from the 89101 area.
There are currently more than 600 animals up for adoption or foster at the Animal Foundation.
