LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The man shot to death in North Las Vegas was allegedly the wrong “target,” according to an arrest report.
On Wednesday, April 9, around 10:43 p.m., Las Vegas Metro Police responded to reports of a shooting near Las Vegas Boulevard and East Cheyenne Avenue.
The victim, identified as Desai Abrams, was found inside the driver’s seat of his white 2018 Honda Accord suffering from a gunshot wound.
The Clark County Coroner later confirmed the cause of death was due to a gunshot to the head.
The arrest says Abrams best friend was in the passenger’s seat when the shooting happened.
The suspect reportedly walked from the back of the vehicle and fired a handgun at the victim’s head.
LVMPD reports surveillance cameras spotted an individual creeping toward the vehicle. The person was described as a black male adult with dreadlocks, wearing grey shorts, and a torpedo style satchel.
The suspect was later identified as Adrian Rhodes.
A man wearing a bullet proof vest approached officers on scene and revealed he believed he was the target of the shooting, the report says.
The man told police he and the Rhodes were in an argument over a girl earlier that day. Rhodes reportedly threatened to shoot him.
The report said he and Abrams had the same vehicle, and Abrams was parked in his regular spot.
A woman who was acquainted with the suspect, was told to hide a gun and give Rhodes a ride home, which she did according to the report.
Rhodes is set to appear in court on May 14.
