LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Henderson woman says it happens day and night: speeding in her neighborhood, to the point where it has become like a highway.
She says she has been trying to get something done about the dangerous drive for more than a decade. Now FOX5 is getting answers from the city.
Sandra Broadway says because Pueblo Boulevard between Burkholder and Warm Springs is this is a straight away with no stop signs or stop lights, drivers can pick up a lot of speed.
FOX5 brought out the speed gun and in a matter of minutes, clocked several drivers in the 45 mph zone exceeding that even reaching 60 mph, but Broadway says it is often much worse. She claims it has become like the Autobahn.
“It’s pretty much a back road and everybody uses it,” explained Broadway. That backroad backs up to Broadway’s backyard. “It’s an accident waiting to happen,” Broadway contended.
“We’re not going to make that safer if we continue to allow people to drive 75, 80 miles an hour down the road,” Broadway added. She’s lived in the neighborhood 16 years and says it continues to get worse.
“This has kind of become the way to go from Boulder Highway to the other side of Lake Mead and a lot of people know that. So as the houses have gotten built, people are now starting to use this even more than they had before,” Broadway explained. She says she’s reached out to the city at least four times starting back in 2014 asking to add a light, speed bumps or a stop sign and they just sent her a letter say nothing could be done to the street itself saying things like speed bumps or a flashing light cannot be added to the non-residential roads (there are no homes facing Pueblo).
“I don’t know what more I can do other than continue to file the complaints of the city,” Broadway shared with FOX5.
After speaking to Broadway, FOX5 took her concerns to the city. Within 24 hours, Henderson sent FOX5 this reply and plan:
In years she lived in her Henderson home, Broadway says never seen traffic enforcement in her neighborhood. What she has seen is pedestrians walking alongside the road almost get hit and plenty of crashes.
FOX5 did see two Henderson Police Department marked units on patrol Thursday night.
