LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Clark County grand jury has indicted a man for fleeing the United States while out on bail for a deadly crash.

Iurie Trofim is accused of driving under the influence in an August crash last year along Red Rock Scenic Loop. That night, medical responded near mile marker 3 to provide aid to Carson Heath, 55, of Las Vegas. He died at the scene. Court records say Heath was a veteran.

Nevada State Police investigators found that Heath rode a motorcycle northbound and was rear-ended by another vehicle that fled the scene.

After collecting car parts, police determined the suspect vehicle was a Ram 1500 made between 2019-2024.

The next morning, Las Vegas Metro Police notified troopers about a Ram at Blue Diamond and Cimarron Road. Police learned the Ram was followed by Good Samaritans. The driver, later identified as 40-year-old Trofim of Las Vegas, ran off the road and got stuck.

He was taken into custody by Metro and was booked into the Clark County Detention Center. He faced the following charges:

  • Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs resulting in Death
  • Duty to Stop at the Scene of an Accident involving Death NRS Reckless Driving resulting in Death
  • Failure to Render Aid at a Vehicle Accident
  • Failure to Decrease Speed or Use Due Care
  • Failure to Drive on Right Half of Roadway

Police confirmed it was the same Ram involved in the crash due to damage.

Two days after his arrest, Trofim made his first court appearance and was given a $10,000 bail.

Wednesday, a grand jury indicted Trofim. Court records say he fled to Moldova after putting his house up for sale while in jail. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
