LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Las Vegas Metro Police’s Search and Rescue team says summer heat and busy trails are driving up rescue calls across Clark County.
Sergeant Matthew Marlow said his unit covers all 8,000 square miles of the county, from Mount Charleston to Lake Mead, handling hikers stranded off-road, heat-related emergencies and dangerous terrain where patrol cars can’t go.
“Summer has its own set of calls that are very common, for sure, based on heat injuries. It is one of the higher seasons of rescue calls, for sure,” Marlow said.
The team trains year-round in helicopter, mountain and dive rescue. They urge hikers to carry a personal locator beacon, a satellite device that can call for help when there’s no cell service.
