LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The City of Las Vegas and Clark County are issuing a warning to valley residents about a new text scam.
FOX5 has received multiple messages from viewers about the scam, which claims that the recipient has missing the payment deadline for an outstanding traffic ticket and has been referred to collections.
The text further asks the recipient to “take care” of the matter within the next 12 hours and provides a link.
Clark County identified the scam Friday afternoon, adding that it would never solicit payments through text messages and discouraging people from responding or clicking the link.
The City of Las Vegas also issued a similar statement and provided the following tips on how to spot a legitimate parking ticket:
- Parking Services will never reach out via text regarding an outstanding account
- A citation number, date, and the officer’s name will be present.
- We don’t accept parking ticket payments from Cash App.
Those with additional concerns are encouraged to email the city’s parking team at [email protected].
