RENO, Nev. (FOX5) – The Nevada Highway Patrol and state police are aware of a new scam targeting northern Nevada.
Officials report the new scam out of Reno is warning about a fake email being sent by what appears to be ‘the DMV.’
The email goes on to say it’s being sent by Nevada Highway Patrol, warning of an outstanding ticket.
It threatens not paying will lead to fines and even a license suspension.
NHP says they will never call, text or email asking for payment or personal information.
The City of Las Vegas and Clark County have also issued a warning to valley residents about a new text scam.
NHP’s alert is separate from the traffic ticket scam the City of Las Vegas has shared.
