LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A 23-year-old man is accused of running a red light that caused a crash involving three other vehicles and killing another driver.
Las Vegas Metro Police said the crash happened at Eastern and Stewart avenues at 6:24 a.m. Sunday. The 23-year-old, identified as Raul Castorena of Las Vegas, sped in a Toyota Camry east on Stewart, police said.
At the same moment, a Volkswagen tried to turn left onto Stewart from Eastern. Police said the Castorena did not stop at a red light and hit the Volkswagen.
The Toyota hit a stopped Nissan Rogue at the intersection, which caused the Nissan to hit a stopped semi-truck.
LVMPD said the driver of the Volkswagen, a 42-year-old man, had to be mechanically extricated from the vehicle. The drivers of the Toyota, Volkswagen and Nissan were all transported to UMC.
The Volkswagen’s driver died at the hospital. Castorena remains in critical condition, but was booked into the Clark County Detention Center in absenstia on charges of DUI, reckless driving, and failing to follow the red light.
The Nissan’s driver claimed their injuries, police said.
“The driver’s death marks the 82nd traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction for 2025,” police said. “The collision remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section.”
