LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A woman who was a passenger during a holiday weekend collision near Moapa has died, and the driver faces homicide and driving under the influence charges.
The fatal crash occurred over the Fourth of July holiday weekend on July 5, just before 6:30 a.m., on northbound Interstate 15 at mile marker 75. That location is about 45 miles northeast of Las Vegas near Moapa.
Investigators said a sedan struck a paddle marker and a metal signpost before colliding with a guardrail and coming to rest on the shoulder of the road.
The passenger in the sedan, identified as Gloria Veganava, 41, of Perris, California, was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead three days later.
The sedan’s driver, identified as Jose Guadalupe Magallon Mora, 34, was also injured and taken to a nearby hospital. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
According to court records, Mora faces a charge of felony vehicular homicide and misdemeanor charges of driving with a revoked license, making an improper lane change, and operating a vehicle without a required breathalyzer ignition device or tampering with it.
Mora did not appear in court Friday because he remained hospitalized. He is scheduled to appear in court at 10:30 a.m. July 23.
The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol’s Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the crash.
