LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — New video sheds light into the moment an officer fired their gun at a suspect in North Las Vegas over the weekend.
FOX5 has obtained the critical incident details from an altercation that took place on Sunday, July 20. North Las Vegas Police released body-worn camera footage of responding officer Joshua Vardoulis.
NLVPD officers responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot with two adults and three children on Tropical Parkway and Nicco Way, near the I-15 and 215 interchange in the northeast valley.
One caller who reported the incident described this to dispatch, “There’s a tan car parked with [something] covering the windshield and there’s a lady in the front like passed out. She looked unconscious. There’s a guy in the passenger with multiple, like, super young kids in the back seat with dogs. Didn’t look like the car was on and the kids look super sweaty,”
While speaking with police, the driver of the car sped off which caused a child to fall out of the car.
NLVPD report an officer on scene quickly ran to grab the injured child and moved her to safety.
The suspect circled the vehicle around the parking lot and hit another officer. Officials say an officer shot 5 rounds at the suspect. The suspect was shot in the stomach before he was arrested.
The two arrested were identified as Auftan Green, 31, and Kristal Leavitt.
Police report a firearm and drugs were recovered at the scene.
Green faces two counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, three counts of child abuse or neglect, and additional charges are pending. Leavitt faces 5 counts of child abuse or neglect.
According to police neither adult had legal custody of the three children. The kids were put in the custody of Child Protective services. Officials confirmed their legal guardian is a relative.
