LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — As their neighborhood has been slowly sinking and homes shifting for decades, the people of Windsor Park in North Las Vegas have been promised brand new homes.

While millions of dollars has been allocated by the government from the local to federal level and a new build site found, construction has yet to begin.

The “New Windsor Park” will be an entirely new replacement neighborhood at Carey Avenue and West Avenue on about 18 acres of land not far from the original neighborhood.

Approximately 93 single story homes need to be built on a tight deadline, a deadline growing closer each day.

Two years ago, state lawmakers approved $37 million to build new homes nearby but last month, lawmakers failed to push back deadlines on that money and the new development has yet to break ground still needing city approval.

The developer asked the city to rezone the land to build the homes, expedite the approval process, and that all development, entitlement and construction fees be waived including permits, inspections, and utilities as “the continuing deterioration of the existing homes within the original Windsor Park community presents a clear and present danger.”

“In my house the ceiling and the walls are detaching….we need this to work because we can’t live like this,” explained Eli Valdez last month went before City of North Las Vegas officials asking they take action.

FOX5 just checked with the city on the status of the project. They shared the following:

FOX5 also checked in with the developer asking their timeline on submitting what is needed to obtain a permit from the city and any target date for groundbreaking. Developer Frank Hawkins shared with FOX5 they have a meeting with the city next week. Last month, he promised, “We’ll be done as quickly as we can before December of 26, and they’ll be able to move in for Christmas.”

FOX5 also asked again about any target date for groundbreaking. That’s still not clear as the first big deadline for $12 million is just two months away.

The second deadline, when $25 million from the federal government expires if the homes aren’t built, by December 2026.
