LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — There’s a new lawsuit stemming from the Badlands site, this time against Clark County.
Former developer Yohan Lowie is suing Clark County for $8 million over past property taxes.
According to the lawsuit, Lowie claims the county illegally collected taxes on land he didn’t own and now he wants the money back. The initial Badlands dispute centered on the city’s attempt to block the development of homes on the property.
The lawsuit says that under the court ruling, the land was taken by the government and should have been exempt from property taxes.
In March, Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley announced the final resolution for the Badlands site. A $636 million settlement was reached after the Nevada Supreme Court ruled the property was taken from Lowie without compensation.
Future homes are expected to be built at the Alta Drive and Rampart Boulevard site.
FOX5 reached out to Clark County for a statement. The county said it is “unable to comment on pending litigation.”
