27 dead cats, 21 sick cats found in east Las Vegas home, report says

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Las Vegas woman is facing animal abuse charges after Metro Police and Clark County found over 25 dead cats in her east valley home.

FOX5 obtained the arrest report for Elisabeth Convington. According to court records, she faces up to 107 charges of animal abuse. Las Vegas Metro Police responded to her home on Aug. 6 near Flamingo Road and I-11.

According to the report, Clark County Protection Services had a warrant because of a complaint of an excessive number of cats. When officials responded with a warrant, they found at least two dead cats.

In an interview with Convington, before she asked for a lawyer, she told law enforcement that she catches and releases cats. Clark County officials said the cats found in the home were not spayed.

The report says a strong smell of urine and ammonia came from around the house. Also, a strong smell of decomposition was coming from trash bins and rotting food sat in the driveway.

Animal Protection Services noted the house was “impossible” to walk through, “stuff was all over the walls, feces on the floor and boxes everywhere.”

In the garage, Clark County said they found boxes stacked on top of each other filled with dead cats. The report said the smell was “unbearable.”

The Las Vegas Metro Police report said 27 dead cats were recovered and 21 cats were found alive but sick. The report says they were taken to The Animal Foundation, where they were diagnosed.

According to court records, Convington faces up to 107 animal abuse charges. She has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Sept. 16.
