LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Nearly 40 people are left without their homes because of an apartment fire, and they’re getting some assistance with the Red Cross of Nevada.
Tuesday, five people were transported to the hospital along with a firefighter after a building fire at Sonterra Apartments, near Maryland Parkway and Tropicana Avenue.
31 out of 32 units were occupied, according to Clark County Fire Department’s Kenny Holding. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Several animals were also saved and animal control responded, but CCFD did not know their immediate conditions.
The firefighter and victims taken to the hospital are expected to make a full recovery, officials say.
Wednesday morning, Red Cross volunteers continued to help those impacted by the blaze. They are giving victims a place to stay and the resources they’ll need to get back on their feet.
The Red Cross has been reportedly helping families in need beginning shortly after they got word of the incident.
“The Red Cross is continuing what we started yesterday, which is to help people who have been affected by the fire and we’re helping them by meeting with them, finding out what their needs are and providing assistance that we’re able to do,” said Marge Becker, a Red Cross disaster action team member.
So far, the Red Cross has helped at least 13 families from the complex. Those still needing assistance can call 1-800-REDCROSS to get connected with services.
