LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Farmacias Similares products are now available at CVS stores across Las Vegas.
For nearly three decades, Farmacias Similares has been a household name in Mexico. Known for affordable generic medication and even $3 doctor visits, the chains mission has always been simple – access for everyone.
“Because before, in Mexico, there was no generic medicine available in the pharmacies, so it was the mission was to open the access and help millions of people in Mexico,” said CEO of Farmacias Similares, Victor Gonzalez.
Gonzalez said beyond the medicine the company’s mascot, Dr. Simi, has become a cultural icon.
“I think right now it’s more like a movement, like a Latin American movement because of the mission that we have to give access to everybody,” Gonzalez said.
Now Las Vegas is the launchpad for Farmacias Similares U.S. expansion. Shoppers can already find Dr. Simi products inside CVS stores in Las Vegas – from supplements to beauty lines and of course the beloved plush dolls.
“When I go to another country, like today, I feel like I’m in my own country thanks to Dr. Simi,” said Jacqueline Navarro, a CVS customer, visiting Las Vegas from Mexico.
The announcement came front and center with images of Dr. Simi displayed on the Las Vegas Sphere. Gonzalez said it’s all about bringing affordable wellness straight from Mexico to Las Vegas.
“We’re bringing as much as we can from Mexico to in giving this access to the Latinos, but also it’s for everybody, you know, Dr. Simi, the idea behind Dr. Simi is as a symbol that is uniting people,” he said.
Farmacias Similares said Las Vegas is just the beginning, with plans to expand across the U.S.
In a press release, CVS said the collaboration is an example of how they personalize their assortment for their Hispanic customers.
