LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – They may look beautiful, but the smoke generated by Super Bowl LVIII fireworks can cause some ugly health effects for some people.
That’s why the Clark County Division of Air Quality has issued a smoke advisory for Sunday, February 11.
Some 2,000 fireworks will be lit off ahead of kickoff. The show will produce not only smoke but also particulates that could be harmful if inhaled. The DAQ warns people in and around Allegiant Stadium, especially those with any time of breathing sensitivity, to take some precautions.
“We certainly aren’t trying to be a buzzkill on the Super Bowl festivities. We’re excited for the Big Game as much as everyone else,” said senior air quality specialist and forecaster Paul Fransioli. “Just as we do on the Fourth of July and New Year’s Eve, we’re issuing this advisory out of an abundance of caution for anyone downwind of Allegiant Stadium.”
The latest forecast calls for light winds on Sunday, which will help dissipate, but not eliminate the smoke and particulates.
