LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — It is one of the biggest events every year at Sunset Park. Starting Friday, an estimated 50,000 people will take part in the 3-day Age of Chivalry Renaissance Festival. The step back in time comes with a modern problem: a lack of parking.

Last year, hundreds of cars were towed from nearby private business lots around Sunset Park. Some people who were towed told FOX5 they had been parking in the lots for years with no problems. This year, there are plenty of signs up warning people “no event parking” in the lot at Sunset and Eastern.

“Unfortunately, it just puts us in a predicament… Throughout the years, it is very hard for us to find parking to the point where we’re trying to park in the back and trying to make up spaces,” recounted Raymond Prado, Owner/ Operator of War Room Games.

At War Room Games, where they specialize in tabletop and hobby games, Prado say the Renaissance Festival is a double-edge sword.

“We love the Ren Fair. Like that’s our people… It’s just kind of not fair to everybody that’s trying to run a business here,” Prado contended. As fairgoers fill up all the parking spots, his customers can’t find a place to park.

“We have tournaments and events and things like that so when there’s not room for parking for us like, yeah, it can really be a big problem… I’ve literally been out here before, and I told somebody, like, ‘Hey, they tow people,’ and they’re like, ‘Oh well, we’ll just risk it,” Prado explained.

“There was about five different tow trucks, all just boom, boom, boom… $536 to get my car back,” festival attendee Kaitlin Baker told FOX5 last year after having her car towed.

“They have one small sign way over there that nobody can see… People are coming, looking for their cars. They’re thinking it’s stolen,” shared Duron Smith last year after also having his car towed.

As much as the business owners like Prado don’t want to see people towed, they also can’t afford to lose customers.

“It’s just it is very hard on us as far as like a business because all of us are just kind of grinding right now,” Prado reported.
