LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — One of Mexico’s most beloved cartoonists has left his artistic mark in Las Vegas, creating a vibrant mural that celebrates the Latino community at the Mexican Consulate.

Trino Camacho, known throughout Latin America for his quick wit and endearing characters, recently visited Las Vegas where he traded his traditional ink pen for a permanent marker to create something special for the valley’s Latino residents.

“I’m going to talk about making humor in these times, which is so difficult. Not just in Mexico, but everywhere,” Camacho said during his visit.

Decades of celebrating Mexican life

For more than four decades, Trino has used humor to reflect Mexican life through comic strips and film. His work celebrates everyday people and the quirks that unite Latinos across cultures.

The cartoonist said he was deeply moved by the Latino community he encountered in Las Vegas and the strength of immigrants who have built lives here.

“I feel very moved by our people because obviously this is a nation that was built by many hands, not only Mexican but also Salvadoran, Honduran, and from all over Latin America,” Camacho said.

A love letter in art

As a tribute to Las Vegas’s Latino community, Trino created a mural at the Mexican Consulate filled with his signature “monitos” — little figures that capture the essence of Mexican humor and identity.

“All Latinos, we have a weapon and that is a huge heart, and hopefully this will amount to something,” he said.

The renowned artist expressed his joy at finding Spanish spoken throughout Las Vegas, viewing the Latino community as a powerful force that should remain united.

“I’m happy that I can go anywhere here in Las Vegas and everyone speaks Spanish to me. Obviously, I feel that we are a very powerful force and that right now, more than anything, we must be united,” Camacho said.

From ink and paper to consulate walls, Trino’s art continues to tell Mexico’s story, now with a Las Vegas twist. The mural can be viewed at the Mexican Consulate located at 823 South Sixth Street.
