LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A 60-year-old man was arrested on Friday and will face charges related to animal cruelty after a dog was found discarded inside a plastic garbage bag and later died.
Investigators believe the dog, which they referred to as Bailey, was the pet of Randy Lee Katz, 60, of Henderson. Katz was taken into custody early Friday morning and faces charges related to the incident.
Katz’s home was in close proximity to the location where the dog was found, police said.
The dog was discovered still alive on Tuesday in a trash bag near the intersection of Via Da Vinci and Via Firenze in Henderson. Investigators later said they were looking into the case as possible animal cruelty.
The dog, identified as a Terrier mix, was about 10 to 12 years old and died at an area animal hospital.
Veterinarian Robert Loose told FOX5 his team performed three rounds of CPR and provided supplemental oxygen and medications.
Katz faces a felony count of willfully or maliciously torturing, maiming or mutilating an animal kept for companionship or pleasure. He posted bail and is scheduled to appear in court for a status check on Dec. 2, according to court records.
Anyone with information about or video of the incident is asked to call the Henderson Police Department at 702-267-5000. Additionally, those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or via the organization’s website.
