LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Tropicana Avenue is finally getting the attention it’s needed for two decades. The 3.1-mile repaving project between Jones Boulevard and Durango Boulevard began in August and has restricted traffic to one lane in both directions.
The extensive construction has frustrated commuters navigating the area daily. The project specifically targets the section between Jones Boulevard and Torrey Pines, where delays have become routine for drivers.
What’s Included in the Project
The comprehensive rehabilitation includes:
- Full pavement replacement
- Upgraded curbs and gutters
- New sidewalks
- Upgraded street lighting
- New traffic signal at Tropicana and Torrey Pines
Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft said the scope of work reflects the neglect the road has experienced over the past two decades.
“This project on Tropicana is the first time these roads have been touched in 20 years. It’s time,” Naft said.
Why the Long Wait?
According to Naft, the county typically performs maintenance on a seven-year cycle using slurry seal and patching to extend road life. However, after 20 years without a major overhaul, Tropicana Avenue required a full rehabilitation project.
Reporting Construction Issues
Drivers have expressed frustration over seeing closed lanes without visible construction activity. County officials encourage residents to report any concerns about traffic patterns or cone placement that seems inappropriate.
To report issues with the construction project, contact Clark County Public Works at 702-455-6000 or use the FixIt app. Residents can also reach out to their county commissioner’s district office.
The Tropicana Avenue repaving project is expected to be completed by the end of May.
