LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A 23-year-old pedestrian from California suffered life-threatening injuries Friday morning when he was struck by a taxi cab at a Las Vegas intersection.
The collision occurred at approximately 6:18 a.m. at the intersection of University Center Drive and Naples Drive, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.
Evidence at the scene and surveillance video indicated a 2023 Toyota Camry taxi cab was traveling northbound on University Center Drive, approaching the intersection of Naples Drive. The pedestrian was walking in a marked crosswalk across University Center Drive on the north side of Naples Drive, from east to west, entering the path of the Toyota.
The collision occurred when the front left of the Toyota contacted the pedestrian. The pedestrian was projected in a northwest direction onto the roadway.
Emergency medical personnel arrived and transported the pedestrian to Sunrise Hospital with significant injuries. Upon his arrival at the hospital, medical staff determined the pedestrian’s injuries were life-threatening.
The driver of the Toyota remained at the collision scene, claimed no injuries and did not show signs of impairment.
The collision remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section.
