RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – The State of Nevada has filed to dismiss a lawsuit over voter rolls brought by the Trump Administration.

The motion to dismiss was filed on Wednesday.

The DOJ is seeking an order to direct the Secretary of State to turn over a copy Nevada’s computerized voter registration list of its nearly 2.2 million voters.

The state has offered to provide a publicly available list under normal procedures but refused to disclose what it says is sensitive voter information, such as social security numbers, ID card numbers, or driver’s licenses without further review.

The DOJ is invoking Title 3 of the Civil Rights Act, which allows the Attorney General to inspect elections records to enforce voting laws. The State of Nevada, however, argues the DOJ is misunderstanding the law, and that they have not satisfied its requirement to provide a statement of the basis and purpose for its demand.

It also accused the DOJ of attempting to access data protected by the Privacy Act, the E-Government Act, and the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act.
