LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A 59-year-old woman was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries Monday after crashing into a pole in the central valley.
The single vehicle crash occurred around 6:31 p.m. on West Owens Avenue, east of the intersection with A Street, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.
Evidence at the scene indicated a 2006 Toyota Prius was traveling eastbound on Owens Avenue, passing through the intersection with A Street, when the vehicle lost control. Police say the vehicle drove over the center median and across the westbound travel lanes.
The Toyota collided with the north curb line of Owens Avenue and collided with a concrete support pole for the overhead train tracks. The vehicle then rotated and crossed back over the center median, coming to rest in the eastbound travel lanes.
Emergency medical services immediately transported the driver and passenger to University Medical Center Trauma Center for treatment of their injuries.
The passenger was treated by hospital staff and released later that evening with minor injuries. The driver remains at the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The collision remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Collision Investigation Section.
