LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A man accused of shooting and killing his cousin and hurting two others has reached a plea deal.
Billy Hemsley pleaded guilty to a murder charge and two attempted murder charges in connection to the August 2022 shooting at the Mirage on the Las Vegas Strip, according to his lawyer Clark Patrick. Hemsley’s cousin, Acturius Dwayne Milner, was killed in the shooting.
According to an arrest report, Hemsley shot his cousin after they were “play fighting” in a hotel room.
Hemsley has a lengthy criminal record and was accused of trying to kill Milner nearly 20 years ago. According to an arrest report from LVMPD, Hemsley was accused of shooting Milner twice in the buttocks after a drunken altercation in 2003. Police said three children were also present during the incident.
In 2012, Hemsley also reportedly stabbed a girlfriend and stole her car, according to an arrest report by LVMPD. Hemsley reportedly said, “I am going to kill you!” while holding a large butcher style knife with a 5-6 inch blade. Hemsley reportedly beat the woman to the ground. The woman told police she tried to defend herself and Hemsley said, “This is what happens in prison when you do wrong” before stabbing her several times in the abdomen, the report said.
Hemsley’s sentencing was set for April 2.
