LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Raiders fans expressed confidence that new coach Klint Kubiak will bring the direction the franchise needs after years of disappointing seasons.
“I feel like we need to bring a new direction,” said Keenan Higgs, a Raiders fan. “Over the years, from transforming from Oakland to coming to where we are now, I think we’re going to bring that spark again. We’re going to bring that Raider Nation love again.”
The fanbase acknowledged the team’s recent struggles while expressing hope for change under new leadership.
“The last year I had some hopes. They showed some glimpses, but they still need, I think, a little bit of leadership,” said Alex Powell, another fan.
Kubiak brings Super Bowl experience
Powell and other fans pointed to Kubiak’s recent success as the offensive coordinator for a Super Bowl-winning team as a reason for optimism.
“Nothing against Pete Carroll, but he’s up there age-wise. That’s not how you restart your organization and get things going,” Powell said. “You bring in a new guy as soon as you can, and here’s a guy that maybe you can build a good future.”
Fans believe the younger coach can better utilize the current roster, which includes players like Max Crosby and running back Ashton Jeanty.
“Max Crosby brings a lot. Jeanty brings a lot. A lot of our young wide receivers are bringing a lot to the game. The defense is very focused. As long as we do that, I think we will have something very special here,” Higgs said.
Team struggled offensively last season
The Raiders finished last in the league this season in points per game, total yards per game and rushing yards per game. The Seattle Seahawks, where Kubiak served as offensive coordinator, ranked third in points per game and in the top 10 in yards per game.
When asked if Kubiak makes the Raiders a contender, Powell said, “In my opinion, yes. He’s got the tools. They’re there. They’re there. He can make it happen with the tools he’s got.”
Fans also discussed the upcoming draft and expected quarterback pick Fernando Mendoza.
Kubiak comes from a football family. Ten years ago, he served as an offensive assistant to his father, Gary Kubiak, who led the Denver Broncos to a Super Bowl victory in 2015.
