LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — TMZ joined FOX5 Thursday morning to discuss the latest on the search for Nancy Guthrie, which is entering Day 12.
TMZ shared new video of an individual that they say “strongly resembles” the suspect caught on surveillance outside Nancy Guthrie’s home. TMZ producer Michael Babcock, who spoke with FOX5 over Zoom, emphasized that the individual appears to have the same backpack as the suspect.
“It has those same reflectors on the straps and the backpack’s been identified. It’s an $11 backpack from Walmart,” Babcock said. “This could be a massive piece of evidence that is just crucial to bringing an end to this.”
In the video, which TMZ obtained, the individual was captured on another surveillance camera five miles away from the Guthrie home. The person can be seen throwing their backpack over a fence before following suit.
Babcock also discussed the multiple ransom notes TMZ has received during the search. TMZ first reported that they received a ransom note last Tuesday, which contained multiple deadlines and demanded bitcoin in exchange for Guthrie.
On Wednesday, TMZ reported that they received a second ransom note, this time claiming they would exchange information about the kidnapper for one Bitcoin.
“Now, the price of a Bitcoin? I didn’t check this morning, but it’s somewhere around, you know, $68,000, $70,000 in that range,” Babcock told FOX5. “They have, again, said, if somebody pays me, presumably the Guthrie family… I will tell you who has your mother.”
He continued, “So it could be somebody playing a horribly cruel joke, or I suppose it could be somebody that does have the answer to this puzzle.”
As Day 12 of the search begins, investigators were seen putting up a white tent over the Guthrie home’s porch, which was later taken down. Investigators have not provided any reason for why the tent was placed.
Savannah Guthrie also posted a new video to social media with old photos and videos of her mother, saying “we will never give up on her.”
