LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A local furniture shop was burglarized Wednesday morning, marking the latest small business targeted by thieves in the Las Vegas valley.

The break-in occurred at Bargain Furniture Arce LLC. near North Decatur and West Lake Mead Boulevard just before 4 a.m. Security cameras captured the entire incident, including clear footage of the suspect.

The owner, who asked not to show her face on camera, said she watched the burglary unfold through her security system after being notified by her security company.

“I checked the cameras, and he was breaking the window that’s back over here by the vanities and crawling in,” the owner said.

Suspect caught on camera destroying property

Security footage shows the man pacing outside the shop and looking around before kicking in a window and crawling inside. The suspect broke chairs, flipped over a couch and rummaged through the owner’s desk before stealing a small pouch and the keys to the store’s delivery truck.

“He crawls in. He broke a couple of chairs, flips over the couch, and then he starts rummaging through all my desk. He drops his cigarettes, which the police and stuff took pictures of,” the owner said.

The owner said business has been slow, but she had received her first sale of the month just days before the burglary.

Part of broader pattern of business break-ins

According to police data, there have been 731 reported burglaries since the beginning of the year, with 177 arrests made. Last month, three card shops were broken into by a group of thieves who made off with thousands of dollars in collectibles.

The owner is now looking into new security measures, including gates that would run across the windows with padlocks, which she said will cost thousands to install.

Despite the damage and theft, the owner said she cannot understand why the thief targeted her business.

“I would give you the shirt off my back,” she said. “If he had knocked on my door or looked into my camera and said, hey, I don’t have anywhere to sleep, he could have slept in my box truck.”

Police are actively investigating the case, and no arrests have been made. According to Metro PD data, burglaries are down 24% despite the recent influx of break-ins in the valley.
