LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Las Vegas woman set to marry in April says her mother’s wedding dress and her grandmother’s headpiece were stolen from her apartment building’s mailroom after being shipped to her. Delivery confirmation showed the package arrived, but it was gone by the time the bride-to-be went to get it.

FOX5 reporter Kim Passoth said security footage from the apartment complex helped identify a suspect.

“They pulled up the tape — they identified a male who took the package,” Passoth said. “He entered the building with a key fob, meaning that he was a resident.”

A Las Vegas bride-to-be is asking for help from police and the community after her family heirloom wedding dress was stolen.

Package left on counter, not secured in locker

The apartment complex told FOX5 that delivery personnel are required to place packages in secure lockers. In this case, the package was left on an open counter instead. The complex said it is trying to help the resident as much as possible and expressed sympathy over the loss.

Passoth said the bride indicated this was not the first package to go missing from the mailroom, and that other residents had reported similar incidents.

David’s Bridal steps in after media coverage

Following FOX5’s coverage of the story, David’s Bridal reached out to the bride and offered her a dress and accessories valued at $3,500+.

“After the media coverage, David’s Bridal has reached out to her and offered her a $3,500 dress and accessories,” Passoth said. “Obviously, it can’t replace the one that was taken, since that has so much sentimental value.”

Community keeping watch

The story drew significant response on social media, with people saying they would monitor local thrift stores and resale pages for the dress.

“A lot of people are saying, ‘Hey, we’re keeping an eye out on local thrift stores, on local resale pages,’” Passoth said. “What is somebody going to do with a stolen vintage wedding dress? There’s probably not a lot of options.”

The bride told Passoth her biggest fear is that whoever took the package will discard the dress in the trash.

“That’s one thing that she’s scared about — that somebody will open that package and be like, ‘Oh, this has no value to me,’ and just toss it,” Passoth said.

Metro investigating

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police are investigating the theft.

Photos of the dress are available at fox5vegas.com . Anyone who spots the gown at a thrift store or on a resale platform is encouraged to report it.
