LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A road rage incident in North Las Vegas caught on dash cam has sparked conversation about aggressive driving in the Las Vegas Valley.
Rosemary Martin said she honked when a red Tesla cut her off while driving home last Tuesday. She called 911 and the dispatcher guided her turn-by-turn to police.
“There is a red Tesla following me, and the woman threatened me with her gun,” Martin told the dispatcher.
The Tesla took off before she approached the police station.
Dispatcher guided driver to safety
Martin said the dispatcher helped guide her to safety during the 9-minute ordeal.
“I would hate to be him in his shoes, because not only is he trying to figure out where I am and give me directions, but I know that he’s also trying to let the police know where I am too,” Martin said. “I mean, I would just, say thank you to him and how well he handled himself.”
Martin uploaded her dash cam video on TikTok. It has been viewed more than 16 million times.
Social media users say road rage is common
FOX5’s Facebook post about the incident has more than 650 comments. People said road rage is rampant in the Vegas Valley.
One poster said: “This almost happened to me on the freeway.”
Another said: “I flipped someone off for cutting me off and he chased me all the way to the police station. Dispatch also advised me to drive there.”
One poster mentioned the deadly road rage shooting on the 215 in Henderson in November that took a child’s life, saying “Nothing is ever this serious. Pulling a gun it’s never that serious.”
Police offer safety tips
North Las Vegas police said if you find yourself in a similar situation:
- Do not engage with the other driver
- Maintain a safe distance and avoid eye contact or gestures
- Call 911 as soon as it is safe to do
- Follow the direction of the dispatcher who may guide you to a safe location
- Do not drive home
North Las Vegas police said their investigation into the incident is ongoing. The red Tesla had a paper plate and Martin said she couldn’t see all the numbers. She said there is distinctive yellow paint on the back driver’s side.
