LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A family from the United Kingdom who were injured in a suspected DUI crash on the Strip met with the first responders who helped them this week.
In a video shared by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on X, the family visited police and paramedics who responded to the crash earlier this month to thank them for their help before they head back home.
The crash occurred on Feb. 8 at East Harmon Avenue and Audrie Lane, near Las Vegas Boulevard.
Gavin Caci, 28, of Las Vegas, was driving a gray 2026 Tesla Model Y eastbound on Harmon Avenue when he failed to maintain his lane and drove onto the south sidewalk, police said. The Tesla re-entered the roadway, struck the rear of a stopped 2024 Chevrolet Trax, then returned to the sidewalk — striking two adults and a 2-year-old girl who was seated in a stroller.
A 32-year-old mother and her 2-year-old daughter sustained life-threatening injuries, while the 38-year-old father suffered minor injuries. All three were transported to University Medical Center Trauma Center.
Caci fled eastbound and was followed by a witness to the Topgolf parking lot, where police later located and arrested him. He showed signs of impairment and was booked on DUI and hit-and-run charges.
According to LVMPD, officers and paramedics maintained contact with the family throughout their recovery in Las Vegas.
“They checked on them daily, brought them food, they brought toys for the little girl that sustained some significant injuries,” Officer Enez said in the video.
The family is now returning to the United Kingdom, where their recovery will continue.
“They look phenomenal. All things considered, it looks like they’re going to make a great recovery,” Paramedic Bryce R. said.
Regarding the suspected DUI crash, Officer Enez added, “There’s no excuse for it. We have plenty of resources out there. There’s Uber, there’s Lyft, there’s absolutely no excuse for it,” an officer said.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
