BOULDER CITY (FOX5) — A park in Boulder City is closing temporarily as the city begins a major upgrade to its aging irrigation infrastructure, officials announced.

Wilbur Square Park, located near Nevada Way and Colorado Street, is slated to be closed for about sixty days, according to Boulder City officials.

The city’s contractor, Brightview, has begun work replacing the decades-old, failing irrigation system with an approximately 60-day closure expected during construction.

Alternative Parks Available

While Wilbur Square is temporarily closed, residents are encouraged to enjoy nearby alternative facilities, including:

  • Bicentennial Park
  • North Escalante Park
  • South Escalante Park

All three parks will remain open and available throughout the construction period.

Minimal Impact on Spring Events

City officials say the closure should have minimal impact, if any, on Boulder City’s popular spring events, including the Spring Family Festival scheduled for April 11 and the Spring Jamboree set for May 2-3.

Expedited Timeline Requested

Recognizing that some residents use Wilbur Square during allotted off-leash hours, the city has requested the vendor expedite the project timeline where possible.

Equipment will be parked on Park Street during construction.

Part of Broader Infrastructure Effort

The irrigation replacement is one of 103 projects currently in progress through Boulder City’s Public Works Department, ranging from design to construction phases. Of those, 26 are actively under construction.

City officials thanked residents for their patience during the improvement project.
