LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department K-9s will compete in the 34th annual K-9 trials Sunday alongside dogs from dozens of other agencies from the southwest region.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the South Point Arena and is free and open to the public.
Organizers said the events are kept secret from competitors to maintain fairness. Local teams from Henderson and North Las Vegas are among the contenders.

Specialized dogs and their handlers will also participate, including Bolo and his handler, officer Dave Brisendine. Bolo is a three-year-old Labrador who works as an explosive detection dog for Metro.
“This brings a lot of notoriety to the department,” said LVMPD Lieutenant Matthew Harris. “Hopefully we win, and it brings a lot of positive reputation for us, but mostly it’s just for us to show off our hard work, to show what our dogs can do, and how the dogs serve and protect the community.”
Organizers said the trials offer a way to see how K-9s train and the role they play in police work.
