LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Clark County held a free community event to recruit prospective foster parents as the county faces a need for 200 more licensed foster homes.
Families heard from county officials on the process to become a foster parent. They learned about the application and requirements, as well as services available to help foster families once they take in a child.
The county estimates 200 more licensed foster homes are needed to meet the needs of babies, children and teens in foster care.

“We need diverse families to be able to take different types of children,” said Jennifer Erbes, Clark County Family Services. “We have sibling groups in which we need families that can take an infant and a toddler and a teenager all together in a sibling group, or we need families who are willing to take teens and be their mentors and to help them through the aging out process.”
The community also heard from current foster families on their experiences, including their struggles, how they look to each other for support and what makes it all worth it.
“It’s very fulfilling to look at their face and realize that they’re happy and they’re loved and they’re healthy,” said Megan Planz, a foster parent. “And that I had a part in doing that. And the wonderful thing about fostering is maybe one day they do get reunited with their family. You get to do that for another family.”
