LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — About 1,400 people gathered at the federal courthouse in downtown Las Vegas for the No Kings protest against immigration enforcement.
The demonstration ended at 7 p.m. after protesters lined the streets around the federal courthouse. Local and federal law enforcement stood guard at federal buildings throughout the event.
About an hour into the protest, the crowd marched toward the detention center and the Regional Justice Center. The march took about an hour.
Protesters said they were upset with the current administration.
“Let the people speak, the people are not ok with what’s going on, we are not ok with this administration’s actions and they need to understand they work for us,” said Amanda Ybarra, a protester.
Nevada State Treasurer Zach Conine attended the demonstration.
“I think everybody is united and Nevada needs to stand up for itself and especially at this moment we got to speak truth to power,” Conine said.
Counter-protesters in small groups also appeared in front of the federal buildings and along the march route.
Metro police arrested seven people. The arrests included refusing to remove a prohibited item, throwing rocks, battery against protesters and four counts of pedestrian in roadway.
Organizers Indivisible Las Vegas said they wanted the demonstration to remain peaceful. The crowd dispersed after the protest ended.
