LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — FOX5’s Nicole Reynolds attended SEMA, the annual automotive trade show at the Las Vegas Convention Center, where she experienced drifting demonstrations and interviewed celebrities.
SEMA, which is primarily closed to the public and requires attendees to be buyers or sellers, has begun allowing consumers to attend on the fourth day of the event. The show spans what organizers describe as 32 miles of carpet across multiple buildings.
“It is a car-lovers paradise,” Reynolds said. “We’re talking new builds, anything you can manufacture, parts, what’s coming, vehicle launches. They have experiences as well outside.”
Drifting experiences and custom vehicles
Reynolds participated in drifting demonstrations twice in one day, including a ride in a modified Mercedes E-Class limousine from the UK. The vehicle was part of a movement that brought four different builds from the UK to the US to raise money for charity.
“It was cool because it was also part of a movement that came from the UK to bring four different builds to the US, and it was all to raise money for charity,” she said.
The show featured two yards for demonstrations, one operated by Hoonigan and one by Horsepower Rodeo.
Celebrity interviews and new releases
Reynolds interviewed Sung Kang from Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift, who discussed his new movie inspired by Japanese and American drift culture.
“It was neat to sit down and talk to him about the progression of that and how the car community, car culture, everything like that, played a role and still plays a role in his life,” she said.
The show featured manufacturers including Honda Racing, Nismo, Mopar and Toyota showcasing new parts and builds. Reynolds highlighted the Toyo Tread Pass display, which featured different makes and models showcasing various Toyo Tire products.
Reynolds hosts 5DRVtv, a FOX5 channel that is less than a year old and available on Cox Cable channel 125 and 5.4. The channel features visits to local dealerships, exotic car experiences at Dream Racing, and classic car builds at Atomic Motors.
A composite show featuring SEMA coverage has been released.
SEMA takes place every November at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
