LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A World War 2 Navy veteran turned 100 years old with a birthday celebration in the west valley.

Roy Demaret was born in a small Kansas mining town before joining the Navy. After his service, he dedicated his time to manufacturing and then an avocado grove.

He first celebrated the milestone with family over the weekend. Today’s celebration was for his friends at Morning Star Senior Living.

“Well, this is my new family. I know I’ve met so many fine people that are here, that I didn’t, you know, had no contact with any of them. And we’ve become a fine group, and they’re just wonderful people. They’re friendly, and warm, and outgoing, and it’s great,” Demaret said.
