LAS VEGAS — Two people were killed in a shooting at a Smith’s grocery store, according to Las Vegas Metro Police.

Pamela Buskey-Smith was shopping when gunshots rang out just feet away from her.

“I stopped on the peanut aisle, and the next aisle over, he was on the next aisle over from me, and all I heard were the gunshots,” Buskey-Smith said.

She dropped everything and ran out of the store. The suspected shooter walked out shortly after.

“When I got out the door, he was walking. He was just taking his time, like nonchalantly, as if nothing had happened,” Buskey-Smith said.

Victims were Smith’s employees

Arturo Salazar, a Smith’s worker, found the two people killed on aisle four.

“They were on aisle four. I could tell there were deceased already because they were both like pale, you know, completely pale,” Salazar said.

Salazar said he knew the deceased well. He said they worked at the grocery store and were shopping for one of their kids.

“They were trying to celebrate their daughter’s birthday. You know what they had in the shopping cart when they got killed? They had a cake that said, ‘Happy birthday,’” Salazar said. “I’m just in shock and honestly, disbelieving. I just feel very bad for their kids, you know?”

FOX5 Investigates identified the shooting suspect as Alejandro Alfonso Estrada.

According to Metro police, the suspect used to be in a relationship with the woman killed, and there was an ongoing child custody battle.

Casey Wagner’s family was close to the man who was shot.

“This is somebody who’s one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. He and his wife. I mean, they’re so down to earth. They helped everybody. I’ve always seen a smile on their face,” Wagner said.

“You’re just talking to somebody, and somebody walks up and takes your life, and you don’t even know it. It’s just so heartbreaking,” Wagner said.

Buskey-Smith said shoppers need to be vigilant.

“These are human beings. You’re a human being. So I’m just asking everyone, just please watch your surroundings. Make sure that you’re safe,” Buskey-Smith said.

Buskey-Smith said she may switch to online shopping. She said she is still shaken up by the shooting.

“I just told my husband and my children, I’m going to start doing online orders. I’d never do that. I love to shop. So it’s like now I don’t want to go in another store. I’d rather just do online orders,” Buskey-Smith said.
