LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Two unarmed men tackled a suspected shooter inside a Las Vegas grocery store, ending a rampage that left a couple dead.
Darius Alston and Merconie Clark wrestled the gunman to the ground using physical strength alone.
“I hear two to three shots. Bam, bam. Immediately I go down to my knees and I look around. I see a lot of people running,” Clark said.

As people ran away, Clark ran toward the gunfire after a female employee yelled for help.
“She yelled out, ‘There is a shooter.’ So while she yells out, there’s a shooter, I don’t know what happened. I just walked over there towards him. He pulled out this gun… We’re wrestling for the gun. I’m trying to keep it from pointing to me. He’s trying to point it this way, point it that way. So as I grab the gun, we fall to the ground,” Clark said.

Alston had left his barber shop nearby and was in the store to buy soda with his children when the shooting started.
“We get to the checkout line and the shots firing off. So I have my two little ones with me. I’m like, okay, so I get them all to cover,” Alston said.
After getting his children to safety outside the storea, Alston ran back inside.
“He walks up and he grabs the dude like he’s trying to get the gun away from him. So when I seen Clark, I go over there and I’m helping Clark out now because now Clark’s life, now Clark’s life is in danger,” Alston said.
Police arrived and took over. The suspect was seen in video obtained by FOX5 pinned to the ground with an officer’s knee while in handcuffs. Alston dragged the suspect’s backpack and brown handgun back toward the officer once the suspect was subdued.
The two men, strangers before the incident, embraced after the takedown.
“If they [police] didn’t come quick… he wouldn’t have made it. Yeah, he probably would have been dead,” one of the men said.
The men said they learned after the fact that the gunman was heavily armed. They said his backpack contained an arsenal of ammunition, other loaded guns and an assault rifle.
“If we would have let him go, say to this KFC. It would have been over KFC. Yeah, who knows what it was on that guy’s mind,” one of the men said.
