LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — At least one officer shot at an armed suspect running onto a school campus, North Las Vegas police say.
Police said the incident started just before 11 a.m. at a business near the 7000 block of North 5th Street, between the 215 beltway and Deer Springs Way. Police said a suspicious man was hiding merchandise and “behaving erratically” in the store.
When officers arrived, police said the man fled on foot and pointed a firearm at officers. A foot pursuit started, and police chased him into a nearby neighborhood near Legacy High School.
As a precaution, police said both Legacy High School and Northeast Career and Technical Academy were placed on lockdown.
Police said the suspect ran onto the Legacy High School campus while classes were in session. There was an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and at least one officer.
Police also found that the suspect was suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police said the suspect had been taken into custody and was later transported to UMC Trauma Center, where he was last reported in “stable” condition.
