The county lit the sign in red, blue and yellow, the colors of the Philippine flag, to honor the history, culture and contributions of Filipino Americans in Southern Nevada.
Becker said Filipino Americans have helped shape the valley for generations by building businesses, caring for patients, teaching children and serving in the military.
The ceremony was held in partnership with the National Federation of Filipino American Associations, or NAFFAA. The group calls the lighting a tribute to the generations of Filipinos who have strengthened and diversified Southern Nevada.
Filipino American History Month is observed every October. Congress officially recognized the month in 2009.
