LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — It was tough to get through out TV interview at the California Hotel and Casino because so many people recognized Frank De Lima and wanted to stop and say hi.

“Frank the man!” one fan said. “He’s a great man from Hawaii.”

“I feel really good about it,” De Lima said when asked how it makes him feel when fans recognize him.

People remember De Lima from way back in Hawaii, when he did his Kenny Rogers bit. And people remember him performing in Hawaii schools for 50 years. De Lima’s brother figured out he may have performed for two million students over 50 years. For 20 years, De Lima paid for his own travel around the islands to visit all of those students.

Kooky characters and Vegas shows

De Lima had all kinds of kooky characters over the years and started performing at age three.

“I’ve been coming to Vegas once a year since the late 80s, when Sam Boyd had called me and said if I wanted to do a show here. And so, I told him, of course. You know, I was just getting started in my career,” De Lima said.

He performed in California, too. De Lima, like thousands of others from Hawaii, made the move to Las Vegas.

He stays active by still doing some shows and Hawaii school class reunions. De Lima recently performed a Mother’s Day show at the Beach House in Las Vegas. His next show, celebrating his 77th birthday, will be held at the Beach House in July.

“He’s always so entertaining,” one fan said.

FOX5 asked another fan what she thought about seeing De Lima. She replied, “Well, I’m glad he’s still alive,” which De Lima chuckled about.
